Amlodipine and benazepril hydrochloride capsules are a combination of the calcium channel blocker amlodipine besylate and the ACE inhibitor benazepril hydrochloride for oral administration.
Uses
Indicated for the treatment of hypertension in patients not adequately controlled on monotherapy with either agent.
Dosage
Usual starting dose is 2.5 mg/10 mg taken orally once daily. May be titrated up to amlodipine 10 mg and benazepril 40 mg once daily based on patient response.
Side Effects
Most common reasons for discontinuation were cough (3.3%) and edema (2.1%). Other side effects include headache, dizziness, asthenia, flushing, dry mouth, nausea, and muscle cramps.
Interactions
Interactions with potassium supplements, lithium, NSAIDs, simvastatin (limit to 20 mg daily), mTOR inhibitors, and neprilysin inhibitors.
Warnings
BOXED WARNING: Fetal toxicity. When pregnancy is detected, discontinue as soon as possible. Risks include anaphylactoid reactions, angioedema, hypotension, renal impairment, and hyperkalemia. Do not coadminister aliskiren in patients with diabetes.
Pregnancy
Can cause fetal harm when administered to a pregnant woman, with risks including oligohydramnios and neonatal complications. Discontinue when pregnancy is detected.
Storage
Store at 20 to 25 degrees C (68 to 77 degrees F); excursions permitted to 15 to 30 degrees C (59 to 86 degrees F).
