11 DESCRIPTION The active ingredient in alosetron tablets USP, is alosetron hydrochloride (HCl) USP, a potent and selective antagonist of the serotonin 5-HT 3 receptor type. Chemically, alosetron is designated as 2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-5-methyl-2-[(5-methyl-1H-imidazol-4-yl)methyl]-1H-pyrido[4,3-b]indol-1-one, monohydrochloride. Alosetron is achiral and has the empirical formula C 17 H 18 N 4 O•HCl, representing a molecular weight of 330.8.
