The recommended dose is 250 mg to 350 mg three times a day and at bedtime. The recommended maximum duration of use is up to two or three weeks.

Most common adverse reactions (incidence greater than 2%) are drowsiness (6-17%), dizziness (2-8%), and headache (2-5%).

Interactions

CNS depressants (e.g., alcohol, benzodiazepines, opioids, tricyclic antidepressants) may have additive sedative effects. CYP2C19 inhibitors or inducers may alter exposure levels.

Warnings

Due to sedative properties, may impair ability to perform hazardous tasks such as driving or operating machinery. Additive sedative effects when used with other CNS depressants including alcohol. Cases of abuse, dependence, and withdrawal reported. Seizures reported. Contraindicated in patients with a history of acute intermittent porphyria or hypersensitivity reaction to a carbamate such as meprobamate.

Pregnancy

Data over many decades of carisoprodol use in pregnancy have not identified a drug-associated risk of major birth defects, miscarriage, or other adverse maternal or fetal outcomes.
