Uses

Indicated for use between dental visits as part of a professional program for the treatment of gingivitis as characterized by redness and swelling of the gingivae, including gingival bleeding upon probing.

Dosage

Swish 1 tablespoon (15 mL) undiluted for 30 seconds, then spit out. Use twice daily, morning and evening after toothbrushing. Do not rinse with water, other mouthwashes, brush teeth, or eat immediately after use.

Side Effects

Common side effects include tooth staining, increased calculus formation, and taste alteration. Oral mucosal effects reported include aphthous ulcer, gingivitis, ulceration, and erythema. Rare cases of parotid gland swelling have been documented.

Warnings

An increase in supragingival calculus was noted in clinical testing. Anaphylaxis and serious allergic reactions have been reported during postmarketing use. Should not be used by persons hypersensitive to chlorhexidine gluconate or other formula ingredients.

Storage

Store at 20 to 25 degrees C (68 to 77 degrees F), with excursions permitted to 15 to 30 degrees C.
