Uses
Indicated for managing hypertension as sole therapy or adjunctive treatment, and for edema associated with congestive heart failure, hepatic cirrhosis, corticosteroid or estrogen therapy, and renal dysfunction including nephrotic syndrome.
Dosage
Hypertension: Start with 25 mg daily; increase to 50 mg if needed; maximum 100 mg daily. Edema: Initially 50-200 mg daily or on alternate days. A single dose given in the morning with food is recommended.
Side Effects
Gastrointestinal effects (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea), CNS reactions (dizziness, headache), hematologic reactions (leukopenia, thrombocytopenia), dermatologic reactions (rash, photosensitivity), and cardiovascular effects like orthostatic hypotension.
Warnings
Use with caution in severe renal disease and hepatic impairment. Sensitivity reactions may occur in patients with history of allergy or bronchial asthma. Hypokalemia may develop. Contraindicated in anuria and hypersensitivity to chlorthalidone or sulfonamide-derived drugs.
Storage
Store at 20-25 degrees C. Protect from light.
