Ciclopirox shampoo 1% contains the synthetic antifungal agent ciclopirox for topical treatment of seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp in adults.
Uses
Indicated for the topical treatment of seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp in adults.
Dosage
Wet hair and apply approximately 1 teaspoon (5 mL) to the scalp. Up to 2 teaspoons (10 mL) may be used for long hair. Lather and leave on hair and scalp for 3 minutes. Treatment should be repeated twice per week for 4 weeks, with a minimum of 3 days between applications.
Side Effects
Most frequently reported adverse reactions are pruritus, burning, and erythema. Increased itching and application site reactions occurred in 1% of subjects in clinical trials.
Warnings
If a reaction suggesting sensitivity or irritation occurs, treatment should be discontinued. Avoid contact with eyes. Hair discoloration has been reported with ciclopirox use in patients with lighter hair color.
Pregnancy
Ciclopirox shampoo should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Animal studies showed no maternal toxicity, embryotoxicity, or teratogenicity.
Storage
Store between 15 to 30 degrees C (59 to 86 degrees F).
