Overview
XACIATO is a clear, colorless, viscous vaginal gel containing clindamycin phosphate at 2% concentration, supplied in an 8g tube with a single-dose applicator delivering 5g containing 100mg of clindamycin.
Uses
XACIATO is indicated for treatment of bacterial vaginosis in females 12 years of age and older.
Dosage
One applicatorful (5g of vaginal gel containing 100mg of clindamycin) administered once intravaginally as a single dose at any time of day. Not for ophthalmic, dermal, or oral use.
Side Effects
Most common adverse reactions occurring in more than 2% of patients: vulvovaginal candidiasis (17% vs 4% placebo) and vulvovaginal discomfort (6% vs 5% placebo). Serious adverse reactions include Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhea.
Interactions
Systemic clindamycin has neuromuscular blocking properties; use with caution in patients receiving neuromuscular blocking agents.
Warnings
Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhea may occur ranging from mild to fatal colitis. Not compatible with polyurethane condoms; latex or polyisoprene condoms recommended. May result in vaginal Candida overgrowth. Contraindicated in individuals with history of hypersensitivity to clindamycin or lincomycin.
Pregnancy
XACIATO has not been studied in pregnant women; low systemic absorption makes significant fetal exposure unlikely. Animal studies showed no developmental toxicity.

HMG-CoA Reductase Inhibitor [EPC]
DESCRIPTION Lovastatin is a cholesterol lowering agent isolated from a strain of Aspergillus terreus. After oral ingestion, lovastatin, which is an inactive lactone, is hydrolyzed to the corresponding β-hydroxyacid form. This is a principal metabolite and an inhibitor of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase. This enzyme catalyzes the conversion of HMG-CoA to mevalonate, which is an early and rate limiting step in the biosynthesis of cholesterol.
