Uses
Treatment of complicated skin and skin structure infections in adults and pediatric patients (1-17 years); Staphylococcus aureus bloodstream infections including right-sided endocarditis in adults and pediatrics (1-17 years). Not indicated for pneumonia or left-sided endocarditis.
Dosage
Adults receive 4 mg/kg every 24 hours for cSSSI or 6 mg/kg every 24 hours for bacteremia via IV infusion over 30 minutes. Pediatric dosing varies by age (5-12 mg/kg depending on condition and age group).
Side Effects
Most common reactions include diarrhea, headache, dizziness, rash, elevated CPK, and hypotension in adults; diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal pain in pediatric patients.
Interactions
HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors may increase myopathy risk; consider temporary suspension during treatment.
Warnings
Monitor for myopathy/rhabdomyolysis, eosinophilic pneumonia, DRESS syndrome, peripheral neuropathy, and C. difficile-associated diarrhea. Avoid use in infants under 12 months. Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to daptomycin.
