Desonide Lotion USP, 0.05% contains desonide, a synthetic nonfluorinated corticosteroid for topical dermatologic use with 0.5 mg of desonide per gram in a formulated base.

Uses

Desonide lotion is a low to medium potency corticosteroid indicated for the relief of the inflammatory and pruritic manifestations of corticosteroid responsive dermatoses.

Dosage

Apply to affected areas as a thin film two or three times daily depending on severity and discontinue when control is achieved. If no improvement is seen within 2 weeks, reassessment of diagnosis may be necessary.

Side Effects

Total incidence of adverse reactions associated with use was approximately 8% including stinging and burning approximately 3%, irritation, contact dermatitis, condition worsened, peeling of skin, and itching.

Warnings

Contraindicated in those patients with a history of hypersensitivity to any of the components. HPA axis suppression risks with prolonged use.

Pregnancy

Should be given to a pregnant woman only if clearly needed due to potential teratogenic effects shown in animal studies.

Storage

Store between 20 to 25 degrees C (68 to 77 degrees F).
