Uses

Indicated for the treatment of hypoparathyroidism, refractory rickets (vitamin D resistant rickets), and familial hypophosphatemia.

Dosage

Vitamin D Resistant Rickets: 12,000 to 500,000 IU daily. Hypoparathyroidism: 50,000 to 200,000 IU units daily concomitantly with calcium lactate 4 g.

Side Effects

Hypervitaminosis D effects include renal impairment, soft tissue calcification, bone demineralization, and gastrointestinal symptoms like nausea, anorexia, and constipation.

Interactions

Mineral oil interferes with the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins. Thiazide diuretics may cause hypercalcemia when combined with this medication.

Warnings

Keep out of the reach of children. Hypersensitivity may cause idiopathic hypercalcemia in infants. Contraindicated in patients with hypercalcemia, malabsorption syndrome, abnormal sensitivity to vitamin D toxicity, and hypervitaminosis D.
