Uses

Indicated for treatment of moderate to severe vasomotor symptoms, vulvar and vaginal atrophy, and prevention of postmenopausal osteoporosis in women with a uterus.

Dosage

Take a single estradiol and norethindrone acetate 1 mg/0.5 mg or 0.5 mg/0.1 mg tablet orally once daily at lowest effective dose for shortest duration.

Side Effects

Common adverse reactions include back pain, headache, pain in extremity, nausea, diarrhea, and vaginal hemorrhage. Serious reactions include cardiovascular events, breast cancer, and dementia.

Interactions

CYP3A4 inducers like St. John's wort may decrease estrogen concentrations; inhibitors like ketoconazole may increase concentrations and adverse reactions.

WARNING: CARDIOVASCULAR DISORDERS, PROBABLE DEMENTIA, BREAST CANCER, and ENDOMETRIAL CANCER. Do not use estrogen plus progestogen therapy for prevention of cardiovascular disease or dementia.
