Uses

Treats Major Depressive Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Bulimia Nervosa, and Panic Disorder. In combination with olanzapine, indicated for acute depressive episodes associated with Bipolar I Disorder and treatment-resistant depression.

Dosage

Adults: MDD 20 mg/day initially; OCD 20 mg/day initially; Bulimia 60 mg/day; Panic Disorder 10 mg/day initially. Pediatric dosing varies by indication (10-20 mg/day). Maximum dose typically 80 mg/day for monotherapy.

Common reactions include nausea (22%), insomnia (19%), nervousness (13%), anxiety (12%), somnolence (12%), tremor (9%), diarrhea (11%), and decreased libido (4%).

Interactions

Interactions with MAOIs, linezolid, methylene blue, and drugs affecting coagulation. Contraindicated with pimozide and thioridazine due to QT prolongation risk.
