Hydrocortisone acetate is a topical corticosteroid suppository containing 25 mg hydrocortisone acetate for rectal use in the treatment of inflammatory anorectal conditions.

Uses

Indicated for inflamed hemorrhoids, post-irradiation proctitis, adjunct for chronic ulcerative colitis, cryptitis, and other anorectal inflammatory conditions.

Dosage

Insert one suppository rectally twice daily (morning/night) for two weeks in nonspecific proctitis. Three times daily or two twice daily for severe cases. Six to eight weeks for factitial proctitis.

Side Effects

Local reactions include burning, itching, irritation, dryness, folliculitis, hypopigmentation, allergic contact dermatitis, and secondary infection.

Warnings

Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to hydrocortisone acetate or any components. Avoid extensive use in pregnancy.

Pregnancy

Category C: avoid extensive use in pregnancy. Unknown if excreted in breast milk.

Storage

Store at 20-25 degrees C (68-77 degrees F). Protect from freezing and heat. Keep out of children's reach.
