Uses

Indicated for use by females of reproductive potential to prevent pregnancy.

Dosage

Take one tablet daily by mouth at the same time every day for 91 days in order directed on blister pack.

Side Effects

Most common: irregular/heavy uterine bleeding, weight gain, acne. Serious: migraine, cholecystitis, cholelithiasis, pancreatitis.

Interactions

Enzyme inducers may decrease effectiveness. CYP3A4 inhibitors may increase exposure. Lamotrigine exposure decreased. Thyroid hormone dose may need adjustment.

Warnings

Cigarette smoking increases risk of serious cardiovascular events. Contraindicated in women over 35 who smoke. Stop if thrombotic event occurs. Monitor blood pressure. Discontinue if jaundice develops. Contraindicated in smoking over age 35, thrombotic history, cerebrovascular/coronary disease, migraine with aura, breast cancer, liver tumors, hepatitis, undiagnosed bleeding.

Pregnancy
