Lisdexamfetamine dimesylate is a CNS stimulant available as capsules for once-daily oral administration, indicated for the treatment of ADHD in patients 6 years and older and moderate to severe binge eating disorder in adults.
Uses
Indicated for ADHD treatment in adults and pediatric patients 6 years and older, and moderate to severe binge eating disorder (BED) in adults. Not indicated or recommended for weight loss.
Dosage
ADHD: Initial 30 mg daily, titrate 10-20 mg weekly to 30-70 mg max. BED: Initial 30 mg daily, titrate 20 mg weekly to 50-70 mg max. Take orally in morning with or without food.
Side Effects
Most common: decreased appetite, insomnia, dry mouth, weight loss, diarrhea, nausea, anxiety. Misuse and abuse can result in overdose and death.
Interactions
Avoid MAOIs. Use caution with serotonergic drugs and CYP2D6 inhibitors. Urinary alkalinizing agents increase levels; acidifying agents decrease levels. Serotonin syndrome may occur with serotonergic drugs.
Warnings
Black box warning: High potential for abuse and misuse, which can lead to substance use disorder, including addiction. Assess cardiac disease before treatment. Monitor blood pressure and heart rate. Risk of psychiatric adverse reactions, growth suppression in pediatric patients, and peripheral vasculopathy. Contraindicated with MAOIs or within 14 days of MAOI discontinuation.
