Generic Name: lisinopril and hydrochlorothiazide
Brand Names:
Lisinopril And Hydrochlorothiazide
Lisinopril and hydrochlorothiazide is a combination tablet containing an ACE inhibitor and a diuretic indicated for the treatment of hypertension to lower blood pressure and reduce risk of cardiovascular events.
Overview
Lisinopril and hydrochlorothiazide is a combination tablet containing an ACE inhibitor and a diuretic indicated for the treatment of hypertension to lower blood pressure and reduce risk of cardiovascular events.
Uses
Indicated for treatment of hypertension to lower blood pressure. Lowers risk of fatal and non-fatal cardiovascular events, primarily strokes and myocardial infarctions.
Dosage
Lisinopril monotherapy: 10-80 mg daily. Hydrochlorothiazide monotherapy: 12.5-50 mg daily. Combination therapy dosing depends on individual component response. Therapy typically begins after monotherapy failure.
Side Effects
Most frequent adverse experiences: dizziness (7.5%), headache (5.2%), cough (3.9%), fatigue (3.7%) and orthostatic effects (3.2%). Angioedema (potentially serious), hypotension, and syncope also reported.
Interactions
NSAIDs may deteriorate renal function. Dual RAS blockade increases hyperkalemia/hypotension risk. Potassium-sparing agents increase serum potassium risk. Lithium toxicity possible. mTOR and neprilysin inhibitors increase angioedema risk.
Warnings
Black box warning: Fetal toxicity - when pregnancy is detected, discontinue as soon as possible. Drugs that act directly on the renin-angiotensin system can cause injury and death to the developing fetus. Angioedema risk (higher in Black patients). Anaphylactoid reactions possible. Excessive hypotension risk in salt/volume-depleted patients. Contraindicated with neprilysin inhibitors.
Pregnancy
Use of drugs that act on the renin-angiotensin system during the second and third trimesters reduces fetal renal function and increases fetal and neonatal morbidity and death. Discontinue upon pregnancy detection.
Storage
Store at 20-25 degrees C (68-77 degrees F). Protect from excessive light and humidity.
