Losartan potassium and hydrochlorothiazide is a combination tablet containing an angiotensin II receptor blocker and a diuretic for the treatment of hypertension and reduction of stroke risk in hypertensive patients with left ventricular hypertrophy.

Losartan potassium and hydrochlorothiazide is a combination tablet containing an angiotensin II receptor blocker and a diuretic for the treatment of hypertension and reduction of stroke risk in hypertensive patients with left ventricular hypertrophy.
Uses
Treatment of hypertension to lower blood pressure and reduce risk of cardiovascular events. Reduction of stroke risk in hypertensive patients with left ventricular hypertrophy.
Dosage
Usual starting dose: 50/12.5 mg once daily. Titrate as needed to maximum of 100/25 mg once daily after 3 weeks.
Side Effects
Most common: dizziness, upper respiratory infection, cough, back pain. Serious reactions include angioedema, hypotension, acute renal failure, electrolyte imbalances.
Interactions
Risk of hyperkalemia with potassium-increasing agents. Lithium toxicity risk. NSAIDs reduce efficacy. Dual RAS blockade increases adverse effects.
Warnings
Black box warning: Fetal toxicity - when pregnancy is detected, discontinue as soon as possible. Risk of hypotension in volume-depleted patients. Monitor renal function and electrolytes. Acute angle-closure glaucoma possible. Contraindicated with hypersensitivity to any component, anuria, or coadministration with aliskiren in diabetic patients.
