Norethindrone acetate and ethinyl estradiol is a combination oral contraceptive containing 1.5 mg norethindrone acetate and 30 mcg ethinyl estradiol per tablet, indicated for prevention of pregnancy.
Uses
Indicated for prevention of pregnancy in women who elect to use oral contraceptives as a contraception method.
Dosage
One tablet daily at same time for 21 consecutive days, followed by 7 days without tablets. Two regimens available: Sunday-Start or Day-1 Start.
Side Effects
Common: nausea, vomiting, breakthrough bleeding, weight changes, breast tenderness. Serious: blood clots, stroke, heart attack, liver tumors.
Interactions
Rifampin reduces effectiveness. Anticonvulsants may decrease contraceptive effectiveness. Atorvastatin increases hormone concentrations.
Warnings
Cigarette smoking increases cardiovascular risks, especially in women over 35. Increased risks of thromboembolic disorders, myocardial infarction, and stroke. Contraindicated in thrombophlebitis, thromboembolic disorders, cerebrovascular disease, breast cancer history, liver adenomas, undiagnosed vaginal bleeding.
Pregnancy
Discontinue if pregnancy confirmed. No conclusive evidence of increased birth defects with inadvertent early pregnancy use. May reduce breast milk production.
Storage
Store at 20-25 degrees C (68-77 degrees F).
