Uses
Indicated for use by females of reproductive potential to prevent pregnancy, with approximately 1 pregnancy per 100 women-years of use.
Dosage
One white active tablet daily for 21 consecutive days, followed by one light green inert tablet daily for 7 consecutive days.
Side Effects
Common reactions include weight changes (11% increase), cervical erosion (9%), acne (4%), dysmenorrhea (4%), and vaginal discharge (4%).
Interactions
Multiple interactions documented including enzyme inducers, bile acid sequestrants, CYP3A4 inhibitors, and effects on other drug metabolism.
Warnings
Cigarette smoking increases the risk of serious cardiovascular events from combination oral contraceptive use. Contraindicated in smokers over 35, those with history of blood clots, cerebrovascular/coronary disease, uncontrolled hypertension, liver tumors, breast cancer, and those taking specific Hepatitis C medications.
Pregnancy
