Uses
Treatment of overactive bladder with symptoms of urge urinary incontinence, urgency, and frequency. Also indicated for pediatric patients aged 6 and older with detrusor overactivity associated with neurological conditions like spina bifida.
Dosage
Adults start with 5-10 mg once daily, with a maximum of 30 mg per day. Pediatric patients aged 6 and older start with 5 mg once daily, with a maximum of 20 mg per day. Tablets must be swallowed whole and adjusted in 5 mg increments weekly.
Side Effects
Most common adverse effects include dry mouth, constipation, diarrhea, headache, somnolence, and dizziness. Discontinuation rate was 4.4% due to adverse effects.
Interactions
CYP3A4 inhibitors increase systemic exposure. Anticholinergic combinations may amplify effects.
Warnings
Risk of angioedema and CNS effects. Use with caution in patients with urinary retention risk, decreased GI motility, and bladder obstruction. Caution advised for patients with dementia, Parkinson's disease, and myasthenia gravis. Contraindicated in patients with uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma.
