Tobramycin and dexamethasone ophthalmic suspension is a sterile antibiotic-steroid combination for topical eye use, containing tobramycin 0.3% and dexamethasone 0.1%.

Tobramycin and dexamethasone ophthalmic suspension is a sterile antibiotic-steroid combination for topical eye use, containing tobramycin 0.3% and dexamethasone 0.1%.

Uses

Indicated for steroid-responsive inflammatory ocular conditions for which a corticosteroid is indicated and where superficial bacterial ocular infection or a risk of bacterial ocular infection exists.

Dosage

One or two drops instilled into the conjunctival sac every four to six hours. During the initial 24 to 48 hours, the dosage may be increased to one or two drops every two hours. Not more than 20 mL should be prescribed initially.

Side Effects

Hypersensitivity reactions (less than 4%), elevated intraocular pressure, glaucoma risk, cataract formation, and potential secondary infections including fungal corneal infections.

Warnings

For eye use only. Not for injection into the eye. Prolonged use risks glaucoma, visual damage, and cataracts. Steroids may mask infections. Contraindicated in epithelial herpes simplex keratitis, vaccinia, varicella, mycobacterial and fungal eye infections.

Pregnancy

Use only when potential benefit justifies fetal risk. Dexamethasone showed teratogenic effects in animal studies.
