Tranexamic acid tablets are oral antifibrinolytic agents containing 650 mg per tablet for the treatment of cyclic heavy menstrual bleeding.

Uses

Indicated for the treatment of cyclic heavy menstrual bleeding in females of reproductive potential.

Dosage

Recommended dosage is 1,300 mg three times a day (3,900 mg/day) for a maximum of 5 days during monthly menstruation. Dosage adjustments needed for renal impairment.

Side Effects

Most common adverse reactions include headache, sinus and nasal symptoms, back pain, abdominal pain, musculoskeletal pain, joint pain, muscle cramps, migraine, anemia, and fatigue.

Interactions

Not recommended with Factor IX complex concentrates, anti-inhibitor coagulant concentrates, or tretinoin.

Warnings

Risk of thromboembolism, including retinal occlusion. Visual disturbances and severe allergic reactions documented. Immediately discontinue use if visual or ocular symptoms occur. Contraindicated with combined hormonal contraceptives and active thromboembolic disease.

Pregnancy

Not indicated for use in pregnant women. Drug crosses placenta. Present in breast milk at approximately 1% of serum concentration.

Storage

Store at 20 to 25 degrees C (68 to 77 degrees F). Excursions permitted between 15 to 30 degrees C.
