Vecuronium bromide is a nondepolarizing neuromuscular blocking agent of intermediate duration, supplied as a sterile freeze-dried buffered cake for intravenous injection.

Uses

Facilitates endotracheal intubation and provides skeletal muscle relaxation during surgery or mechanical ventilation.

Dosage

Initial recommended dose is 0.08 to 0.1 mg/kg given intravenously, producing intubation conditions within 2.5 to 3 minutes. Must be administered by or under supervision of experienced clinicians.

Side Effects

Severe allergic reactions (anaphylactic and anaphylactoid reactions) have been reported, along with potential prolonged paralysis or muscle weakness.

Interactions

Prior succinylcholine administration may enhance the neuromuscular blocking effect of vecuronium, requiring dose adjustments.
