Uses
Approved to reduce cardiovascular death risk and heart failure hospitalization, decrease eGFR decline and kidney disease progression, lower cardiovascular mortality in type 2 diabetes with existing heart disease, and improve glycemic control in adults and pediatric patients aged 10 years and older with type 2 diabetes.
Dosage
10 mg orally once daily in the morning, taken with or without food, with potential increase to 25 mg for additional glycemic control.
Side Effects
Most common include urinary tract infections and female genital mycotic infections. Serious risks include diabetic ketoacidosis, volume depletion, and necrotizing fasciitis.
Interactions
Notable interactions with diuretics, insulin, insulin secretagogues, and lithium. Affects urine glucose testing reliability.
Warnings
